Proposition 3.17

It's that time again. Time to gather signatures in an attempt to make St. Patrick's Day an official holiday in the U.S. As you can see by the graphic below, I signed.

QOTD:
Are you in favour of making St. Patrick's Day {3.17} an official holiday? {click the graphics to visit the Prop 3.17 site and vote}

Sláinte!

On St. Patricks Day,
and every day,
please drink responsibly.

I am most definitely in favor of making it a national holiday. It doesn't have to involve shutting down gov't offices or closing businesses but there should be some recognition for the Irish immigrants who played a huge role in the development of the nation. There were times and situations where the only person worse treated was a slave from Africa.

I don't think St. Patrick, being a humble man, would approve of how his "day" is celebrated any more but it is what it is.

I, for one, am fed up with all the different heritage and culture months while mine is ignored.

How's that for a Monday morning soapbox? :-)

Well that's a fine how-do-you-do.

I can't go to proposition317 web site because our illustrious web filter has determined that it promotes drinking and is therefore not appropriate for business.

Yet, if I wanted to go to gaywired.com or a fashion site (neither of which are any more appropriate to our business) those would be allowed.

I wonder if my argument that Guinness is culturally significant would get it reclassified as lifestyle and therefore allowed....

St Patty's Day *is* a holiday in Newfoundland thanks to all the Irish who emigrated years ago. Newfoundland or rather- the Catholic Church got this done. Now the bars are open but government offices are all closed... so I think this is a great idea. As a Canadian can I vote?

It would just be another holiday I wouldn't be allowed to take off... It's also my ex wife's birthday so why would I want that day to be at all special? (That being said, I AM going out to the Irish pub that evening,,,)

Besides, why do I need a holiday to drink Guiness?

Nobody takes off Halloween or Valentine's day or Flag day or Cinco de Mayo but they are still recognized holidays

I don't need a holiday to drink Guinness.

Since it is the ex-wife's birthday, that should be better reason to get drunk and call her and tell her what you really think

ooh yeah, call her and tell her she is OOOOOLLLLDDDD

we could all get in on it *WEG*
