I can't sleep. What would you suggest to help me do so? Sleepy Time Tea and/or gravol because it's not addictive and is like booze in a pill.
Soup ~
What is your favorite ingredient to cook with? garlic. LOTS of garlic.
Salad ~
How do you like your potatoes? fried or scallopped!
Entrée ~
What special food do you make on St. Patrick's Day, if any? don't usually, but I think I'll make guiness cake this year. Does that count against my abstinence during Lent?

Laying in bed reminding yourself that you are not sleeping is never good. You gotta get up and make a hot drink and either watch TV or read. Reading is a sure way to get me back to sleep. I always fall asleep when I am reading. No wonder my 52 in 52 is tanking this year but that is a story for another day.

Garlic and sea salt are never far away when I am cooking.
Salad ~
How do you like your potatoes?
Fried, seasoned with sea salt and pepper would be my first choice. A close second is this grated potato, cheese and mushroom soup concoction that was always on the table at potluck after Church. mmmm! {I am gonna have to dig that recipe out and make it now.}

Back in the day the X always wanted corned beef and cabbage. I don't care for either plus I don't believe it is a common Irish dish, but I digress. I made it for him faithfully every year. Since he decided to go see if there was something better out there {do ya think he found his better??} I usually make a nice beef stew and soda bread. Last year Rudy taught me how to make Guinness Stew and that has become a family favorite. It's just me and the kid this year. I dunno what I will cook this year.

I think blue is the colour of satisfaction. Not that dark almost black, blue but rather a vibrant sky blue.
T - that doesn't count against abstinence because you gave up drinking alcohol, your end of day, your nightcap. This is entirely different.
You have my dispensation regardless of what blondie is going to say :-)

Hey Rudy.
BITE ME!
;-)

and where are your answers, btw?

Why aren't you sleeping? If it is worry or distraction or restlessness I prescribe sex to occupy your mind with good things and relax the body :-) If you are achy or feeling under the weather then a nice back rub (or the achy parts) to help soothe the muscles followed by snuggling all while listening to relaxing music.
Soup ~
What is your favorite ingredient to cook with?
Guinness :-) I have done a lot of stir fries and curries so I guess curry
Salad ~
How do you like your potatoes?
growing up in an area of Irish and German immigrants (and ancestry), I haven't met a potato I didn't like :-)
Entrée ~
What special food do you make on St. Patrick's Day, if any?
Guinness stew with soda bread. But it varies. Last year I made leeks and cream and this year I am making an Irish twist on an american staple - mac and cheese with guinness sauce made with a blend of Irish cheeses.
Dessert ~
What is the colour of satisfaction?
a yellowy goldish color. Like afterglow after sex

T,
The cupcakes in the photo below is Guinness Cake. They are very yummy. I will hook you up with the recipe if you would like. If you have one already I would love to see how it compares to the one I used.
*hugs*

R,
How come I thought you were at my house last year for St. Patrick's Day? I KNOW we made Guinness stew and I went on a hunt for my shamrock cookie cutters, which apparently I didn't own. Did we celebrate early/late? I am so confused. Which I know isn't difficult to do but whatEV.

Oh, I should clarify, that was the last thing I made here for our pot luck at work. I was working my way back in cooking in my kitchen.
So you are correct. It wasn't last year that I made the leeks. WE made the Guinness stew last year in OUR kitchen.
it was a blonde moment on my part :-)
sorry to confuse you dear.

Let's trade Blondie.. I'll find you my Guiness cake recipe and please do share the cupcakes recipe.
I should have add that my truly fav potatoes are potato and yellow cheese perogies... NOTHING beats that! with sour cream and fried onions - done in bacon fat preferably but butter will do!

The remedies for sleep that work for me: sex, Motrin, antihistamine - depending on the situation at hand. Reading can work too.
Soup ~
I would have to say wine/sherry/vermouth, olive oil and rosemary these days.
Salad ~
I like potatoes either mashed with garlic or roasted with salt, pepper, olive oil and rosemary.
Entree ~
I'm afraid St Patrick's Day is not a big deal to me anymore. I used to eat corned beef and cabbage with slightly green beer at a pub in Vermont every St Patrick's Day, but those days are gone. :-(
Dessert ~
The color of satisfaction is sky blue (that was my answer even before I read it here)
mmmm garlic mashed potatoes yummy
