I don't understand how any one could think this is a bad idea. But then again, I am a Canadian whose daughter had a heart transplant and it cost me nothing but the taxes I already pay. That plus my health plan at work which will cover her life time drugs which clock in at around $1400 a month. AFter age 25 our province's life line programme will cover her. If she finds a job with a health plan they canNOT exclude her.

with all due respect to my friends in the US... what took so long? Welcome to the rest of the developed world.
I hope it sticks and I hope the Dems are not hurt by this when they next go to the polls.

I'll stop my rant now...
Glad to hear you're happy about this

Rant away, girlfriend. I also cannot see how anyone could think this is a bad idea. I have been WITHOUT healthcare coverage for 10 years now because I could not afford the ridiculous COBRA payments. It was truly a choice between making my bills or paying for insurance.

I saw a clip this morning on the news where they had put together previous presidents saying that we must get healthcare reform. Ummmm..so why did they not do so?

The hate mongers are why this country is in such turmoil over this. Baby Killers. Death Panels. Ridiculous!

HA! Your rant got me on a rant.

I hope it sticks as well but the hate is alive and well and doing what it can to derail the program.

love ya, T!

p.s. If you are against this do me a favour. Just for a moment, go back and read that list. To reference a few: Did you know that I have pre-existing conditions that will keep me from even getting affordable coverage at this point in my life? Did you know that my son worries about being dropped from his fathers insurance before he can afford his own? Consider the list once again and then look my son and I in the eye and tell us how this is bad.

I think it is disgusting for one of, if not THE, richest nation on earth to have so many people without access to affordable health care.

these right wing ultra religious need to crack open their bible again and read what it really says.

I think our govt could go even further and promote (i.e. train for free) general practitioners and family care nurse providers and get away from all the specialization. We need specialists to be sure but we need more people to just see and treat people. We need the small town family doc.

I don't think it's the religious right, but then again, it is most definitely the rich who don't want to pay more taxes. I also think it's the insurance companies who are going to have to finally actually pay out on claims and will lose their hold on billions of dollars.

Hope it sticks, for every person like Blondie and others who can't afford to have doctors for sick children. It's just not right.

Good on President Obama.

Luckily Obama is on the right track, I'm without coverage from work, luckily I do have provincial coverage.

As a member of an ageing population, it is only going to get worse not for us the boomers, but for the youngster's, the younger generation will be needing medical help and dying at a earlier age, due to inactivity, fast foods and the lack of self motivation.

Health care will then be managed by whom???
